Question#1: What are the advantages and disadvantages of a WYSIWYG editor?
Advantages of WYSIWYG:
- easy
- fast
- no special skills required
- you can design a site without having any programming knowledge
- Anyone can create web sites and put them online
- Create web sites quickly
- Provide a platform to start learn HTML
- Its great fun to create web pages this way. You can do it yourself, experimenting with colors and layouts. The web page is likely to be unique, unless you are trying to clone another web page. You can stretch your imagination.
- It’s faster and easier to create web pages. You can make changes to a page layout by simply dragging the objects to their new positions.
- You can make changes to content (text or images) in WYSIWYG editor, instead of searching for and inserting between HTML tags, or using a complex content management system.
- WYSIWYG software runs on any windows computer.
- You can also create background images on fly.
- They are easy to use, so even people who have no knowledge of HTML can use them to create their websites.
- Gives you more creative control as you get to focus more on what the design looks like instead of what the HTML code looks like.
- Wikis are easy to use and learn
Disadvantages of WYSIWYG:
- It takes as long to learn how to use them as to learn how to program, and, worst of all:
- You will get stuck in impossible dead ends,
- You will have not learned ANYTHING about programming,
- You will be classified as a “perpetual amateur” (and never be taken seriously).
- A lot of HTML code churned out by the editors is superfluous which makes the web pages bulky in file size and as you will know, a large file downloads slowly that a smaller one. Also search engines need to wade through all this code to get to the meat of the page – the actual text contents.
- FYI, the ALT text is used by search engines and thus it’s a good idea to have your chosen keywords appear there.
Another example is the heading tags of a web page. These are very important from a search engine’s point of view. Thus, you need to put your keywords in an <h1> or <h2> tag and not just have text that “look” big and appear as a heading. - Most editors still use HTML tables to layout a page. This is an older technique replaced by Cascading Style Sheets.
Question#2: What is the difference between your WordPress blog and Jimdo Website (you can create account through Jimdo for your reference and to site the differences, include your Jimdo Link if you have any)
Jimdo. Jimdo is meant for creating business websites, portfolios, blogs and simple webstores. It has its own blogging engine, eCommerce system and a collection of third-party widgets that you can add to your site using the Widget/HTML element. These include MailChimp, Linkedin, Yelp, Fotomoto, Disqus and Google calendar among others.
WordPress. WordPress is super customizable. Users have the ability to create a website to their exact specifications using a number of plugins – tiny pieces of software that you plug into your website to extend the site’s functionality. Tech-savvy users can create their own apps and plugins, meaning that they can scale and improve their website as their business grows, be it a blog, news site or jewelry store.
Question#3: List down three more WYSIWYG web hosting services and their URL.
1.IDEA HOST– idea host is very clear about what they are: a low-cost, unlimited hosting plan. They don’t try to sell you on special upgrade options or higher-priced plans you don’t need. In fact, they don’t have any of those things.
They offer a single plan, which includes everything the average website owner requires. If you’re looking for a low-cost option, this is definitely worth considering. Not only is their price and features competitive, but for the first year they typically provide substantial discounts.
2.SITE BUILDER– In order to move your site to another host and pick up where you left off, you would need the new host to have the exact same builder software; and your old host would need to provide the backup of your site in the proprietary format that the builder uses so that the new host can have the files restored exactly as they were before. This usually requires that you have access to the site’s files. This is the primary reason that professionally built websites are not made on builder programs.
- 3.BLUE HOST– Bluehost is a web hosting company owned by Endurance International Group. It is one of the 20 largest web hosts, collectively hosting well over 1.9+ million domains with its sister companies, HostMonster, FastDomain and iPage.Bluehost was among those studied in the analysis of web-based hosting services in collaborative online learning programs.[
